Bigger and Better Rétromobile Paris for 2024
In 2024, boosted by the continuing success of previous years, Rétromobile will be held in pavilion 1, 2.2 and 3, at the Porte de Versailles Exhibition Centre, Paris.
With more space for exhibitors, more comfort for visitors, more reasons to buy, to dream, to find out information and to admire new and old products at the countless booths; more artists, more clubs, more federations, more spare parts and scale model vendors, more events organisers, more restorers, coachbuilders and car sellers doing their level best to satisfy visitors from the four corners of the world, there are even more surprises that only this show can offer. Heritage and history meet at Rétromobile, where the entire dedicated team is eager to welcome you.
A major international event in Paris, the best show of the season devoted to classic cars features:
In the 2023 edition, no fewer than 125,000 visitors walked the aisles, the second highest attendance score for the show since its creation in 1976. The added bonus of Saturday 4th February breaking the record for the highest number of visitors ever recorded for a single day! French and international visitors were able to admire or buy the 1,000 vehicles presented in the 73,000m² exhibition area, which included more than 500 exhibitors, including 12 manufacturers.
Beyond the figures, and in the opinion of the specialists, the 2023 edition will remain a great vintage because of the quality of the line-up presented. In the aisles of hall 1, one could see the Bucciali V12 "Flèche d’or", a unique model from 1932, more than 50 authentic 24 Hours of Le Mans vehicles – the equivalent of a starting grid -, 8 mythical racing Ferraris on the Richard Mille stand, including one of the 36 Ferrari 250 GTOs produced between 1962 and 1964, or the Porsche 911 Dakar presented by the German manufacturer for the first time in Europe.
"True to its motto: the past always has a future, this 47th edition proves more than ever that the passion and the industry of classic cars has a bright future!" says Romain Grabowski, the director of the Rétromobile show.
Collected by many enthusiasts, the Rétromobile poster is not just a simple communication medium. It officially marks the beginning of the countdown to the next edition and foreshadows the theme of the central exhibition. For this 48th edition, which will be held from 31 January to 4 February 2024 at the Parc des Expositions de la Porte de Versailles, the official poster turns from yellow to green and celebrates a monument of British automotive history…
After Citroën in 2019, Alfa Romeo in 2020, Jaguar in 2022 and Porsche in 2023, the Rétromobile team decided this year to look across the Channel. And it didn't take long before it fell under the spell of a green British vehicle with rounded shapes and a streamlined silhouette. No more suspense, fasten your seatbelts… the vehicle that will adorn the official Rétromobile 2024 poster is the MG EX 181!
When one mentions the MG EX 181, two elements immediately come to mind.
First of all, its design: with its futuristic lines reminiscent of a jet plane or a spaceship, the one nicknamed the "Roaring Raindrop" is a complete break with its time. This aspect is further enhanced by its green colour, which is reminiscent of the "British Racing Green".
Then there's its record-breaking legend: in 1957, on the Bonneville Salt Lake in Utah, the British pilot Stirling Moss reached the insane speed of 245.64 mph (about 395.31 km/h). The MG EX 181 was equipped with a 1500 cc MGA Twin Cam turbocharged engine developing 290 bhp at 7300 rpm and set a new world speed record. Another attempt was made two years later, in 1959, with Phil Hill and an engine with 300hp. This time, the British manufacturer broke the symbolic 250mph barrier by raising the record to 254.91mph (410.5km/h).
More than six decades later, the MG EX 181 is now enjoying a well-deserved retirement in the unique British Motor Museum just a few miles outside Birmingham, England.
