THE MEBANE ENTERPRISE
Coming up on 40 years in serving the City of Mebane and its surrounding communities, Carolina Plumbing has become synonymous with honest, prompt service for customers with pressing leakage, drainage and maintenance issues as it relates to keeping water properly flowing through their homes or businesses.
Current operations manager Janis Dodson Wrenn — better known to family and friends as "Shea" — was there from day one, recalling how her father and business founder, Ricky Dodson, and mother, Jan Dodson, would use the home living room as office headquarters, starting in 1984.
"I used to have a little phone my mama gave me. I used to answer phone calls when I was little and she took care of us. She answered calls and did the work orders and everything," detailed Wrenn, herself now a 34-year-old married mother of one.
Nearly four decades later, Ricky has veered off from day-to-day management of the company, as he now owns and operates a boat-based seafood outfit known as Island Time Excursions (ITE).
But the patriarch's dedication to accommodating his customer base with honesty and transparency has been passed on to "Shea," who places a premium on hiring not only skilled individuals, but ones who are reputable and decent enough to enter someone's home when servicing a call.
Shea and her fellow managers Glenn Wrenn (her husband) and P.J. Gregory — both of whom are often out in the field producing job estimates — prioritize furnishing home and business owners with clean installations and new (never used) equipment and/or parts without taking folks to the cleaners.
"We try to make sure the quality of cost is the quality of work. We’re not trying to overcharge someone because we don't run our business that way," continued Wrenn. "We’re never going to take advantage of anyone. We’re going to have to price it to where we can make a little bit of profit because that's just what business is."
Getting over on customers, she observed, is never conducive to forging years-long relationships, and certainly can have a negative impact on any service provider via word of mouth.
In addition, Carolina Plumbing has a craftsmanship warranty on each of their six roving technicians that they all abide by in the occasional event of providing follow-up service after the completion of a project.
"They want to go back on what they got wrong. They don't want anyone else to go back on their call that they did something wrong on," maintained Wrenn, who assured that the odd "mistake" will always be addressed accordingly.
"We’re going to make sure we provide the rights parts for the right situation, so that there's no leaks and it's sealed properly. Regardless of what we do, whether it be water lines, gas lines, well pumps, pool pumps — it doesn't matter — if there's a leak, it's a problem and we don't want any problems for our customers."
Carolina Plumbing is located at 719 Mattress Factory Road and can be reached at 919-563-3709.
